It didn’t take long for her to realise that Bellatrix was a tease. Not with her implied sexuality – that had been there from the start – but with her kindness. With every gentle word or delicate touch; with every time she stroked Lily’s neck instead of scratched, or kissed instead of bit, she taunted Lily with the person she could have been had her House and her family not trained her to be as cruel as she was.

Lily lived for those flashes; lived for the times Bellatrix would choose tenderness over savagery, and she vowed each time to see more.

Gorgeous, a side of Bella we don't see explored very often, and I love the idea that that flashes of compassion and tenderness are cruel in their own way. ♥

Thank you <3 Any relationship between these two wouldn't have a happy ending, I think, and this is leaning towards the 'make her a better person' trope. But yes, there is a cruelty in Bella's kindness.
