Sirius... I think many underestimate how demaged he was by Azkaban, too. They take his reaction to the family at face value, and for example ignore the very different way the brothers treated Kreacher.
Regulus was probably, in many ways, softer than Sirius and didn't have the outside network and help in form of James Potter to escape.

I know this might seem strange but... do you know any good, long time travel fanfics into the Marauder time? There are so many out there, but the moment one wants plot, character development and more than a Harry/Sirius relationship the fall through.
