The breakdown was probably caused by the political surroundings. While Voldemort was no doubt somewhere around before, he really made his push for power I imagine in the decade after the sorting.
I've often wondered if this stereotypical Gryffindor/ Slytherin philosophy was always so prominent as in Harry's years. In Riddle's memories, Dippet and even Slughorn Slytherin's reputation was certainly not "fluffy" but it seemed to me less evil.
The portrait of Sirius's mother never seemed to be a person one wants to get close to. Phineas Nigellus Black's portrait on the other hand was far better - though not really nice.
I have found some which are quite good. For the phrase "Bad tihngs happen etc." Here is a fanfic for you: "Eternal Return" by silverpad: https://archiveofourown.org/works/400319 Still, I'm missing a really good Marauder Time Travel fic. I agree with the notion of research being a problem. Also it would make a fanfic substantially longer than 20k words.
It's fascinating, yes. :) But also by now it often feels so very similar to each other. As if people just want to add "princess"-feeling to a fanfic.
Allergic? Poor you. Then I will go with reviewing. ;) And I am an expert as a plot sounding board or at least no one has complained yet.
I see. Thanks for the information. I will look it up and maybe join. No promises yet, though.
