“You do realise,” Lavender said, “that you’re acting like Granger.”
To Lavender, that was the worst of insults. Parvati wasn’t entirely sure what she’d done to warrant it. She just wanted things to be perfect. Was that a bad thing? She swallowed the tightness in her throat and sat back, lowering her quill.
“This is my future,” she said. Her application letter for a summer placement at the Ministry sat in front of her.
“I know that,” Lavender said. “But it’s all you’ve spoken about in days.” She pouted. “Why not take a break? Come back to it later. Please?”
Parvati bit her lip. The letter was half-scratched out and blotted with ink and there were pamphlets about her desired department scattered over the table. Her eyes felt gritty and her fingers cramped. She hurt.
“Come here,” Lavender whispered. She pulled Parvati to her and pressed a soft kiss to her temple, winding her arms around her waist. “Relax.”
Parvati cuddled close, shifting so that she could lie half on top of her on their claimed sofa in the Common Room, and closed her eyes. Lavender’s breasts made a comfortable pillow, and her fingers rubbed soothing circles into her back.
