She’s spent her whole life hearing about how it’s all about status. That they’re Blacks - toujours pur - and that no one will ever be good enough for them. Narcissa believes it. Believes that the only one good enough for a daughter of Cygnus Black is, well, a daughter of Cygnus Black.

She lets Bella claim her; carves her name on Bella’s heart in return. She fucks her sister with reckless abandon, knowing that no matter which betrothal contract is accepted in the end, Bella is the only one who will truly have her. They are, truly, the purest.

Literally, the first thing that came to mind when I read 'status' was Sirius' comment in OotP where he says that the Blacks thought of themselves like royalty, and this spun out from there.

Thanks <3 In OotP, Sirius said something along the lines of the Blacks believing they were like royalty, and that they were better than everyone else. This fic basically took that a step further to see what the effects of that ideology would be.
