Challenge #4

Since this is the start of a new year, this challenge will be to set your own goals! Of course we can all make large or ambitious goals, remember that small and/or short goals are also good! Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.



1. Learn some Vietnamese. I do live here now, so I really should put effort into learning a bit more than I have already. I've already emailed a couple of companies to price online lessons, so fingers crossed.

2. I posted a little about this in the post for my Pinch Hit Bingo card, but I do feel a bit guilty about not pinch hitting more. It's a deadline thing so I've only done pinch hits a couple of times. But! I'd like to try writing more, so here we are.

3. Aaaaand, in general, be more active in fandom because I've missed it. Whether that comes as writing more fic, commenting, or just generally being around here doesn't matter.

Learning Vietnamese sounds so daunting to me. I am from Germany, and happy that over the years on LJ and DW, I've learned to write in English (far away from perfect, but hopefully, people will be able to understand the meaning of my babbling).

Fandom is such a great thing, and being more active can bring so much fun into your life.

Being surrounded by it doesn't make it any less intimidating, trust me XD My main motivation is that I'd love to be able to go to the grocery store without spending ages looking things up on Google translate (which is not very good with Vietnamese) and have small talk with my neighbours.

Fandom is great. I really missed it last year.

i agree that learning vietnamese sounds like a real challenge altho to be fair i'm not great at languages so they're all a challenge to me. but it should help that you're actually there and can get some practice talking to the locals. good luck with it! it's a legit fantastic goal.

Thanks! I agree that it's a very challenging language to learn, even being surrounded by it and listening to it every day. But! It's a very practical goal and anything that means my grocery trips are made shorter and easier is a something I'm willing to fight for.

Oooh, Vietnamese! I tried to learn Mandarin, which is similarly tonal, but failed miserably. Fingers crossed for you!

Tones, my favourite part <3 I have my HSK2 in Mandarin and I'm still trying to learn that alongside picking up Vietnamese - which has at least six tones that I know of, so more than Mandarin? It's going to be a struggle

Yeah, there's four in Mandarin. Apparently my brain just doesn't do other languages very well. :)
