Sunshine Challenge - Day 6

Challenge #6
Journaling prompt: What games do you play, if any? Are you a solo-gamer or do you view games as a social activity?
If left to my own devices, I don't play games at all.
I am terrible at video games. This cannot be overstated. It doesn't matter what kind of game it is, I have tried at various times in my life, and I suck.
I used to enjoy watching my brother play games, and occasionally he'd suffer through playing Goldeneye with me on his N65, but that's as far as that went. Eventually, he got sick of me watching, so I stopped, and that was that.
He's also the reason why I don't play card or board games. I used to want to, but he'd deliberately teach me the wrong rules and then accuse me of cheating - or just accuse me of cheating for no reason - so I gave up. Now, whenever playing games has been brought up as a social family thing, he's the first to jump on me for being a spoilsport for not wanting to play, which. These are the direct consequences for your actions, my guy.
However, I have played more games since becoming a teacher than I have in my entire life. Board games, computer games, card games. Twist them so they become an English lesson and I'm like "oh, awesome, an educational resource that doesn't involve any sort of formality." I'll play with the kids instead of observing to try and keep them on track. Hell, I made a board game for one of my classes during summer camp.
So, yeah. My view of games is that they're a fun thing that other people get to do, and that I sometimes use for educational purposes.

What sucks most is that the early experiences sucked all joy out of them, so nothing sounds appealing - even stuff that theoretically should be right up my alley.

And the experiences that I had with games growing up has sucked all the joy out of them for me. Even things that I theoretically should enjoy sound like a nightmare. So, they’re a nice social thing for other people while I read a book in the corner.
It’s a shame that game nights and things falling through leads to such isolation 😕

That is such a pity you had bad experiences.
I didn't like all the competitive games like Monopoly or betting card games, those are silly and led to arguments. I did like the mystery games like Cluedo, we used to take roles. I was always Miss Scarlet, my friends were Reverend Green and Professor Plum etc. That was such fun. We used to have Bonfire Night parties and buffet parties as my parents had a big house and garden. The neighbours were all sociable back then (the 20th century)
Now days in the 21st century, no one knows their neighbours and everyone is on social media, aren't they? 😕 Not much community anymore.
