Bella traces the point of her dagger down. She watches as her sister tries not to breathe too deeply as it settles over her heart; watches as arousal and fear battle so prettily in her eyes and her chest expands. The point sinks in, drawing one perfect bead of blood. So sharp it doesn’t hurt. So small it won’t scar – she wants to carve her name into Cissy’s body, but knows she shouldn’t. She knows it’s already on her heart.

Bella pulls it away and soothes the wound with her tongue, lapping at her sister’s perfect, pure blood; her blood.
