Dear Innumerable Stars Author,
First of all, I'm so, so sorry that this letter is late up. My sign-up was very last minute so I'm afraid this is going to be a bit anti-climactic as well as late.
Thank you so much for signing up and for creating fic for this fest. I'm really looking forward to reading what you come up with, and I'm sure that I'll absolutely love it.
On a general note, my DNWs are non-con, physical or psychological abuse, and extreme angst (of the suicidal kind). I really, really can't read them so I'd appreciate it if you avoided them as much as possible. I'd also much prefer to receive canon-divergence or canon-AUs rather than anything involving the present day, coffee shops or high school. Apart from that, I'm very much an anything goes kind of person. I tend to prefer established relationships. I'd prefer secret relationships as well, though if you want to include people finding out about those relationships then I'm all for it, especially if it's a pathway to h/c (which I love) rather than heaps of angst. I also like fics that have characters solving problems by working together and actually communicating with each other. I like dark humour, sass and sarcasm, and strong characters that aren't afraid of getting what they want (even if they don't know quite what that is yet).

Worldbuilding
As I said in my sign-up, I'm happy to have any and all of the worldbuilding tags applied to any fic, regardless of fandom. This goes for LotR in particular as there was only one wordlbuilding tag for that fandom. Want to write about pubs or orc culture or marriage bonds or magic as power? Go wild. I'd love, love, love anything written about the worldbuilding tags that I've chosen.
Fandoms
The Hobbit (Jackson Movies)
I should point out that I'm not the biggest fan of movie!Thranduil. I love the scars and the blind!Thranduil trope that they've created. I love the dignified flamboyance. I absolutely detest most of the rest of his characterisation - especially his apparent disdain for Silvan Elves because WTF was that bullshit about. So yeah, fair warning: book!Thranduil is preferred, although if you want to weave in aspects of movie!Thranduil then that's fine.
Also, please no Legolas/Tauriel. Feel free to include her because Tauriel rocks, but please make her more than just an unrequited love interest. I much prefer the Legolas-ships that I requested. I'm also really into the canon of sex=marriage for Elves. Take that and its consequences and run with them if you will.
I love the line "less wise, and more dangerous", the sinister darkness of Mirkwood, and the magic and mystery of the forest that we see in the book - the white stag and the feasts and the connections to mythology as well - and I really wish that they had been explored more in the movies. So, anything to do with that will go down a treat. I'd love to see the magic of Mirkwood's Elves, a functional Silvan/Sindar society. I'd love for Thranduil to be connected to the forest and maybe some comparisons of his magic to the Girdle of Melian.
As for my Orc requests...go nuts. Build a culture for them! Any insight into Orcish life would be brilliant, particularly if it acknowledges their distant Elvish ancestry and any possible hangovers from that - and makes them more relatable than they are in canon.
Pairings-wise?
Thranduil/Legolas - I'd love to see something based on the differences in their relationship in public and private spaces and how their dynamic shifts and changes between the two. Something where they're both aware that what they're doing is wrong would be good, or at least where they both acknowledge the Elven taboo on incest, but continue anyway. Something about the differences in their personalities would be great too.
Thranduil/Bard - I love the idea of these two encountering each other before the movies take place. Bard poaching in the forest and being discovered by Thranduil while on a walk; something to do with the myths that surround Mirkwood - what do the people of Dale/Esgaroth think of their Elvish neighbours? Do they glimpse white stags through the trees? Do they have any stories/misconceptions about them that Thranduil has to either put to rest or take advantage of?
Legolas/Bolg - I'd love to see something playing on the forbidden nature of this relationship (I have a thing about those). Them both trying to resist but being unable to stay away from each other. Something that plays off the fact that Orcs were once Elves would be brilliant too, as would anything involving a kind of Orc culture that doesn't leave them as either irredeemable or noble savages would also be amazing.
The Lord of the Rings (Movies)
I like Boromir. Scratch that, I adore Boromir. A Boromir fix-it fic would just about make my life.
I also really like the idea of pre-Lorien quest-bonding. Something set while the Fellowship are in Rivendell or in the first few days of travelling together - something to do with cultural differences and star-gazing and getting used to one another. Basically: epic quest bromance that involves more than just the Aragorn-Legolas-Gimli triad.
Legolas/Gimli - this is my LotR OTP and I love anything and everything to do with them. But something that works in the worldbuilding tags, that builds off their mutual experiences in the north, and that discusses their cross-cultural issues as well as giving them a fulfilling romance will tick every box.
Boromir/Faramir - I'd adore something pre-quest where they're both alive and well and nothing (except Denethor) hurts them. Something with them starting to sneak around as teenagers, perhaps? Or something where a night of celebration/treating one another's injuries after a successful campaign almost gets them caught.
Or! An outsider!POV fic post-quest where, after a conversation with the Fellowship chatting about the ones they've left at home and Boromir talking about his sweet, wise and slightly bookish partner, one of them (Pippin, perhaps?) puts it together. Up to you if you want to go with dead!Boromir for that or a fix-it.
Boromir/Pippin - Not going to lie, but I hardcore ship these two and I barely see decent fic of them. So. ANYTHING. Anything for Boromir and Pippin that involves any of the worldbuilding tags. I'd really like to see a happy ending, though.
The Silmarillion
My Sauron prompts all have a general theme, so...bear with me when I say I'd like Sauron to have a redemption arc. You can do that through romance or gen interactions or however you like, but I'd love to see him take the second chance he asks for at the end of the War of Wrath and see him run with it. But that doesn't man I want to see him get off lightly - I want him to face suspicion and doubt and attempts at revenge from the (many, many, many) people he hurt, but I also want him to work through it and come out...better (although still not perfect) on the other side.
That said, I would also love to see Sauron as an agent of Aule, spying on Morgoth for the Valar and low-key helping the Elves and Edain in their battles against the enemy, because that would make my life. If you go for this one, I'd still like to see him deal with the consequences of his actions.
And really, any of my Sauron pairing requests paired with those prompts would make me so happy. But! A few pairing specifics -
- Sauron teaching Thranduil magic through music
- Sauron crafting something for his (intended)partner
- Sauron, Maglor, and the Silarils. I'd love for Sauron to hate the fucking things and the hold they have over basically everyone
- Eonwe remaining in Arda to "keep an eye on him" and ending up on a buddy-quest/romance adventure hunting down all the nasties that escaped from Angband
Maglor/Elrond - I have a ridiculous love for this pairing but very few prompts for it. I want their love for each other to be complicated, requited, and undeniable. I would also love to see the consequences of it - as well as a possible reunion after Elrond arrives in Valinor/Maglor is released from Mandos' Halls. Or! Maglor turning to Elrond and ending up living quietly in Imladris by his side (maybe founding it with him?) instead of withering on the shore.
Celebrimbor/Narvi - Forging! Craft-kink! Elvish magic and Dwarvish stone-sense. I'd love to see these two bonding really quickly and basically being head-over-heels for each other much to the confusion of everyone around them. I'd like to see them having some prior knowledge of each other before they meet due to the close relationship between Khazad-dum and Eregion, and see how they meet each others' expectations. I'd also love to see a happy ending (or as happy an ending as any Elf can have when they're in love with a mortal) because Celebrimbor's fate is too sad to happen.
Celebrimbor & Elrond & Elros - I'd really, really, really love to see Celebrimbor being so utterly done with his uncles and their nonsense and being like "so you're kidnapping children now? What" and taking Elrond and Elros under his wing. I want to see him sympathising with them - "yes, my family is awful" - and helping to raise them and, in the process, interacting with Maglor and Maedhros for the first time in a long time. Basically: awkward family times for the Feanorians and Elrond & Elros being Celebrimbor's sad little ducklings. (And Elros taking up silversmithing as a hobby and Elrond waiting in dread for something bad to happen because haven't we all learned by now that Elves making jewellery ends in disaster?)
