fic_promptly in response to the prompt "any/any - reading tarot cards".
He doesn’t recognise him at first, which he knows is stupid as soon as he realises that he’s seen the other boy before. He’s one of the teens that had been hanging out with Mutou Yugi on Pegasus’ island. The white-haired one who’d been terrified down in the dark of the cave.
He’s not terrified now. He’s calm: sipping bubble tea in a cafe while placing cards carefully on the table in front of him. Ghost tilts his head to look closer and realises that it’s a divination array, but the boy isn’t using a tarot deck.
They’re Duel Monsters cards.
He’s never seen anyone use Duel Monsters like that, and the novelty is what makes him get up from his own seat and approach.
If he’s doing a tarot reading, the other boy must like the occult too, right?
Ghost isn’t exactly good at making friends, but he knows that common interests are important. At least, that’s what he’s heard from the kids at school who say he’s too weird to hang out with them.
“Hi!” he says.
The other boy looks up. His eyes are red - literally red - which is cool as fuck even if they’re probably contacts.
“Sorry to interrupt, but you’re doing tarot, right? With Duel Monsters? Can I watch?”
An expression Ghost doesn’t quite catch flickers over the other boy’s face before he nods and indicates the seat opposite. Ghost sits before he can change his mind and leans in to have a closer look.
The first thing he notices is that the cards are in excellent condition, which means either the guy is new to the game or he loves his deck. The second thing is that they’re all occult cards. He has a Dark Necrofear!
Ghost thinks he’s in love.
