Tunnel of Love
Journaling: The romance of summer! What do you love? Write about anything you feel sentimental about or that gets your heart pumping.



I love my family and the friends who have become family.

I love writing. I love how difficult it is, and how much I feel like screaming at my keyboard every time I can't put things into words.

I love travelling. I love exploring new places, whether it's finding unexpected similarities in the general outlet of shopping malls world-wide or visiting small tropical islands and getting trapped in a harbour because of thunderstorms.

I love my cats. I miss them desperately - they're being taken care of by my mother back in England, and they're driving her batty (one of them has developed a desperate love of mayonnaise and she now gets terrorised every time she wants to eat a sandwich). I left them behind because of money and quarantine and not knowing how long I'd be out here, and I miss being swiped at and drooled on and purred at. My tattoos also look very weird now that they aren't littered with scratches.

You came ashore and shed your skin;
collected glass from between the stones
and carried them with you as your gaze turned
upwards.

You wove your hair with scavenged wool
and placed it on the altar of a broken temple.
We watched the wind carry your prayers over the fields and
upwards.

Now, you always reach for the sky. Selkie no more,
you track cloud formations over the mountains. You
turned sea-glass into butterfly wings, and you soar forever
upwards.

I like your list of things you love. How unusual for a cat to obsess over mayonnaise, they are funny creatures aren't they 😉

They are absolute weirdos. My other cat is a fiend for baked goods, so honestly, sandwiches are now the worst possible food option XD

Since the other cat is a fiend for baked goods, including bread, I suspect pincer movements are involved XD Full-on kitty military tactics in the name of a BLT

I love that poem. So much literature about selkies is depressing, but this one is hopeful.

I feel like the cat story is made better by the background info that a) this cat is the one that has food allergies and is meant to be on a carefully monitored diet, b) the mayonnaise thing came about because my mother found out that you can use it to polish wooden furniture - it works, but the cat then proceeded to give the piano a tongue bath and shoved her entire head in the mayo jar, and c) the other cat is a fiend for baked goods, including bread, which makes sandwiches the worst possible food option in that house.

Upwards would be the most appropriate choice for a title - thank you!

I genuinely had a moment about a month after moving here where I just sat staring at the tattoo on my thigh trying to figure out why it was different. It was the absence of scratches now that I'm no longer being used as a springboard by a fuzzy demon.
